At the UN Council in 2023, with 200 countries as signatories, UN Chief António Gutierres declared: “It is essential to come together around real, practical, and meaningful climate solutions that match the scale of the climate crisis.” Across the social impact space, there is recognition that the changes of our time — climate change, misinformation, and the advent of AI — call for a shift from policy happening behind closed doors to creating accessible content that invites dialogue between public and private organizations, governments and NGOs worldwide to leverage resources, share best practices, and collaborate to address the major issues. Here are some considerations:

Become an accessible source

“Avoid impact washing and make policy accessible,” says Tamara Barakat, Strategy Specialist. Contextualizing impact within a larger system and translating how an organization’s work has real connotations for people’s lived experience.

Empower users to make their impact in the world

Change must come in many forms, and all users—be it funders, policymakers, journalists, the general public, or even world leaders—need tools that address how they can make their impact in the world. Leaders in this space address these needs at the channel level and use digital to enable users to champion the change they seek to make.

Build inclusive systems

Digital platforms are a massive enabler of accessible content and can empower teams to share timely information at scale and in formats digestible for all different audiences. Modern platforms that seamlessly connect CMS and third-party services will enable utility-like machine translation that can continue to scale the reach of this content.

AREA 17 has had the privilege of working with the most influential climate and social impact leaders and is committed to co-creating a world where dialogue and collective action are increased for people truly affecting lives. How can we empower leaders and their audiences to be more powerful than they already are? We would love to discuss how you are approaching these considerations.
